What is The PRiSM Communication Standard?
The PRiSM Communication Standard is a practical framework for creating communication that remains strong, intentional, and effective, especially when the pressure is high. Developed by Shannon George, Founder and CEO of PRiSM PR FIRM, the Standard is built around a simple premise: strong communication needs structure. That structure rests on three interconnected elements:
Clarity, Credibility, and Direction.
Clarity asks, Do people understand what I need them to understand? Effective communicators lead with what matters rather than forcing the listener to search through explanation, context, or qualifiers to find the point. Clarity means knowing what you know, what you do not know, what you are recommending, what you are asking, and what you are willing to own.
Credibility asks, Have I given people what they need to appropriately trust or evaluate what I am saying? Credibility can come from facts, reasoning, relevant context, evidence, expertise, and accountability. Importantly, credibility does not require certainty. A leader can say, "I do not have that answer yet, and remain credible when the response accurately reflects what is known and establishes what will happen next.
Direction asks, Do people know what happens next? Strong communication does not leave the audience wondering, “Now what?†Direction may take the form of an action, decision, commitment, boundary, question, recommendation, or next update. It gives the listener a clear understanding of where the communication goes from here.
The three elements work together. As the presentation illustrates through its triangle model, removing one side can make communication unstable. A message may be clear but lack a reason to believe it. It may be credible but leave people unsure what happens next. Or it may contain plenty of information without ever making the central point clear. The Standard is not a rigid formula requiring equal amounts of all three.
The skill is recognizing what the moment requires.
The PRiSM Communication Standard also goes beyond message structure. It considers the signal created by language and delivery. Word choice, framing, pace, pauses, unnecessary hedging, overexplaining, shrinking, and permission seeking can change how an otherwise sound message is perceived. The objective is not to sound more powerful.
It is to communicate more accurately and intentionally.
Ultimately, The PRiSM Communication Standard gives leaders something reliable to return to when pressure rises: Be clear. Be credible. Provide direction. Check the signal. Then know when the message is finished and let it land.
That is communication that is Poised. Polished. Prepared.
WHY THE PRiSM COMMUNICATION STANDARD MATTERS
People do not experience communication solely through the words we intend to convey. They interpret what we say, how we say it, what we emphasize, and what we leave unclear. Those signals influence perceptions of credibility, confidence, competence, trustworthiness, and whether a leader or organization appears prepared and in control. The PRiSM Communication Standard provides a practical way to become more intentional about those signals, particularly when pressure makes effective communication more difficult.
For an audience, the Standard matters because it makes communication easier to understand, evaluate, and act upon. Clarity helps people quickly identify what matters. Credibility gives them the facts, reasoning, context, expertise, or accountability they need to appropriately trust the message. Direction answers the question that too often remains unresolved: What happens next?
When one of these elements is missing, the audience has to do more of the work. They may have to search for the point, decide whether the message is trustworthy, or determine what they are supposed to do with the information they received. That uncertainty can affect confidence and perception.
The PRiSM Communication Standard reduces that uncertainty. It helps leaders communicate in a way that respects the audience's need for understanding while ensuring the message accurately represents the leader's knowledge, intent, and authority. The goal is not to sound more powerful. The goal is to make communication do its job.
